Tyn Dwr Hall is a Grade II* Country Hall nestled amongst ancient woodland and the rich greenery of the North Wales countryside. (You can even see the stunning ruins of Castell Dinas Bran)

Tyn Dwr Hall in tucked away, just outside the beautiful historic welsh town of Llangollen. It was built in 1866. This spectaular building oozys Tudor design, striking turrets and a bell tower. The grounds and gardens are nothing short of enchanting and magical, that change in beauty throughout the year.

If you’re planning your wedding at Tyn Dwr Hall, you already know it’s something special.

As a Tyn Dwr Hall wedding photographer, it’s genuinely one of my favourite venues to shoot at. Here’s why.

The Setting: Welsh Hills & Endless Backdrops

Tyn Dwr Hall is surrounded by rolling countryside, woodland pathways, and panoramic hill views. (Castell Dinas Bran is in full view in the distance) For photography, that means:

  • Epic golden hour portraits

  • Private woodland shots without leaving the venue

  • Seasonal variety (spring blossom, summer greenery, autumn tones, winter drama)

  • A feeling of total exclusivity

Because it’s privately tucked away, we can create relaxed portraits without rushing or interruptions — which makes a huge difference to how your images feel.

The Architecture: Romantic & Timeless

The hall itself offers stunning architectural features:

  • Grand entrance for the classic confetti shots

  • Tudor details of the Hall making it a stunning backdrop

  • Elegant ceremony spaces with natural light – The Ballroom or The Gardens if you would like an outdoor ceremony

  • Sweeping oak staircase making stunning photos as the bride decends down with the bridesmaids to the wedding ceremony.

Ceremony Spaces Full of Natural Light

One of the biggest factors in beautiful wedding photography? Light.

Tyn Dwr Hall’s ceremony room, the Ballroom, has large windows that flood the space at the top of the aisle

  • Natural skin tones

  • Clean, bright imagery

  • Beautiful aisle moments

  • No harsh shadows

Wanting an outdoor ceremony? The gardens make the most beautiful backdrop as you say “I do!’ at the back of Tyn Dwr Hall as you can hear the birds tweeting and the stream flowing through the gardens

Bride and Groom Portraits at Tyn Dwr Hall

Golden hour here is magic.

The open grounds and elevated position in the back gardens mean we often get uninterrupted moments just you two. Just 10–15 minutes away from your guests is enough to capture:

  • Full view backdrop of the Hall

  • Soft, glowing portraits

  • Dramatic sky backdrops

  • Quiet, just-married moments

These are often the images couples frame on their walls

A Seamless Wedding Day Flow

From a photographer’s perspective, Tyn Dwr Hall works beautifully because everything is on-site:

  • Prep rooms in the main house upstairs: Prep room / Honeymoon Suite, Dickin’s Bar for the Groom and Groomsmen

  • Ceremony space nearby in the Ballroom / Gardens

  • Reception and evening space in one location, in the Garden Room, Dickin’s Bar, Garden Terrace, Ballroom

  • Accommodation for guests: In the Hall itself, Coach House, Cottage, Yurts

That means no travel delays, no lost light, and no stress. Your day flows naturally — and that results in relaxed, authentic images.

My Approach to Photographing Weddings at Tyn Dwr Hall

My style is:

  • Natural and relaxed

  • Light-filled and elegant

  • Emotion-led

  • Focused on real moments

I blend documentary coverage with gentle direction when needed — especially during portraits so you never feel awkward or staged.

The result? Images that feel like your day, not a photoshoot.

5 Reasons I Love Tyn Dwr Hall

I really do not know where to start on my top 5 reasons. Tyn Dwr Hall ticks so many boxes!

 1. Civil Ceremony in the Ballroom or outside in the gardens

Both options are just truly stunning! The Ballroom is a wonderful room to get married in. Near the grand fire place the natural light floods in from the windows to the side so you are beautifully light for photos as you say, “I do!” You can decorate this room to however you would like.

Having an outdoor ceremony you have the incredible back drop of the Hall. As you say your vowes in the beautiful gardens you have the tranquil sounds of the water running from the stream that flows through the grounds. Either option you chose, if you get ready at Tyn Dwr, the staircase to come down to the ceremony is such a wonderful photo opportunity.

2. The food is AMAZING!

Tyn Dwr have their own in house chefs and the food is just out of this world. They really pride themselves on their food, drink and service and I promise you will not be disappointed!

As you eat your wedding breakfast in the stunning Garden Room you are in the most beautiful setting; amongst the best company you could wish for, incredible food and drink, the views of the most beautiful well maintained gardens and grounds and the Welsh countryside

3. Dickens Bar

From a photo point of view – I think it a great space to create a fun bridal party photos!

The Dickens Bar is open before the time of the ceremony which is great for the guys and your guests to have a drink and they serve incredible cocktails too!

4. Stunning gardens

I have photographed weddings here at Tyn Dwr Hall throughout the year. The gardens are so unique and well thought out. They look spectacular all seasons, it truly is a photographer’s dream!

5. Staff

Tyn Dwr Hall is family owned and they make their guests feel very welcomed the moment they walk through the door. It is like home from home, which is just what you need on your wedding day.
