So a very big and important question, how do I avoid missing these special photos?
From experience this is all down to communication between us all. I touched on a pre-wedding meeting in my blog post about tips for family photos.
Around 4-6 weeks before your wedding day before things become too crazy and the build up to your wedding day gets momentum, we always make time for a meeting to go through the run down of your timings, requested photos – for instance a group of girls friends etc, family members – who is who, suppliers etc.
This meeting I find is important to do. This is when I obviously get to see you before your wedding day, but we can talk in depth and because I then I know this information, I do not need to ask questions on your wedding day. You would have told me all those important details and I always ask if you have organised a surprise for one another, please let me know by text, email or give me a call! I have had it before, a groom had arranged fireworks as a surprise and he called me to let me know – so I was ready and had my tripod in the car for when the time came! Because of this I was obviously ready for the bride’s reaction too!
If there is anything that is important to you, it does not matter if its big or small, please let me know as I know these are special photos to you. If you have told me this information I always put it on my little sheet that I have with me and I photograph it or I am ready for it. For example, its a friend’s birthday and you have arranged a birthday cake to come out – we can photo their reaction, if you have arranged singing waiters – we make sure we are armed with our cameras ready to get everyone’s reactions, your granny’s pearl earrings, borrowed garter from you mum, these are special photos!
I want to capture those moments for you. If I know my couples are happy, I am happy too!
Obviously if it didn’t come to light in the meeting, please do not be afraid to say on your wedding day!
