Kicking off 2025!
I had the absolute pleasure of photographing Samantha and Angus’s wedding — my first wedding of 2025, and what a way to start the year! Hosted at a Cloisters in Bolton, their special day was infused with heartfelt moments, a love for the mountains, and the perfect dose of winter magic.
A Love That Began in the Mountains
Samantha and Angus’s love story began during a ski season, and their shared passion for the snow, cold, and mountains has been at the heart of their relationship ever since. It was no surprise that these elements played a central role in their wedding. From the snow-covered trees decorating the venue to the unique snowboard signing board for guests to leave their well wishes, every detail beautifully reflected their story.
A Ceremony Full of Heart
The ceremony, conducted by Angus’s uncle, was deeply personal and heartfelt. Family and friends traveled from across the globe — over the UK, France, South Africa and Australia — to celebrate with them, making it even more special. A standout moment came when the music for the hymn “Lighthouse” was forgotten, and the guests sang it acapella. The room filled with emotion as everyone’s voices rose together in unison, creating a truly magical moment to capture.
Golden Nuggets Everywhere
After the ceremony, Samantha and Angus’s joyful walk down the aisle led straight to the bar, where hugs, laughter, and excitement filled the air. The love and energy were palpable, and every moment felt like a golden nugget waiting to be preserved.
With daylight fading, I whisked the couple away for portraits, utilising the gorgeous large windows in one of the reception rooms before heading outside. The hotel’s stone facade, adorned with stained glass and lit by the soft winter light, provided a timeless backdrop. We later returned for family photos, framed by the enchanting snow-covered trees and Christmas decor. These images will no doubt be treasured keepsakes, capturing the personal and magical setting Samantha and Angus created.
Emotional Speeches and Unforgettable Dances
As the evening progressed, heartfelt speeches from the two best men, Maid of Honour, bride’s father, and Angus himself brought laughter, tears, and cheers. Samantha and her father shared a touching father-daughter dance to Elvis Presley’s “I Can’t Help Falling in Love with You,” a song they’ve cherished together since she was a child. This moment was followed by an exciting cake cutting using a military sword — a nod to Angus’s time in the military — and a first dance that left everyone in awe. The unexpected dip and twirl, with Samantha lifted gracefully into the air, was a show-stopper, and I was thrilled to catch the moment perfectly.
A Dance Floor to Remember
The dance floor came alive with incredible energy, featuring everything from classic tunes to the unforgettable sight of Grandad taking to the floor, pulling off his jacket, and pulling at his braces. The laughter and joy were infectious, a perfect end to a day filled with love and celebration.
Starting 2025 with Gratitude
As I left the venue, I couldn’t help but feel humbled and grateful. Samantha and Angus’s wedding was not only a joy to photograph but also a reminder of why I love capturing these moments. The short break over Christmas was much appreciated. Here’s to many more magical weddings in 2025!
